Do You Need a Green Veggie Supplement?

There is no doubt that green veggies are a big part of a healthy diet and should be eaten daily. The US Dietary Guidelines recommend filling half your plate with veggies each day. Green veggie complex can help increase your daily intake of greens, although you don’t get a free pass on eating fresh veggies as well.

The green veggie complex in our chocolate and vanilla flavor Superfood Powder is a combination of five different powdered green superfoods. It includes chlorella algae, alfalfa grass, spinach leaf, kale leaf and broccoli head.

These five plants are dried and then blended together into a powder. (Our Strawberry shake replaces green veggies with a superfood blend of beetroot, berries, banana and coconut).

Our manufacturing process helps maintain the levels of nutrients found in fresh veggies. The powders are added to our shakes to increase their antioxidant, vitamin and mineral content. This is one of the reasons why we call it a “superfood” shake.

Health Benefits of Green Veggies

Eating a diet high in green vegetables has been linked to heart and cognitive health. The five veggies included in our green veggie complex have their own individual benefits as well. Here are a few of the highlights:

  • Chlorella algae: high in protein, B vitamins, iron, omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants. It has been found to provide immune support and help promote detoxification.
  • Alfalfa grass: lowers cholesterol and may help control blood sugar.
  • Spinach leaf: high in iron, Vitamin K, and Vitamin A. Research has found that it may promote eye health and keep the heart healthy.
  • Kale leaf: One of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet, kale is high in vitamins K, A and C. It also contains multiple antioxidants linked to well-being.
  • Broccoli head high in vitamins C and K. Like other cruciferous vegetables, it contains bioactive compounds that may improve your overall health.

These veggies are all great, but is the powdered version just as good as eating the real version?

What About Powdered Veggies?

There is emerging research that vegetable powders can be a healthy addition to your diet. Supplementing with veggie powders has been found to increase levels of folate, selenium, and vitamins A, C and E in the body. Vitamins A, C and E can help support a healthy immune system. Folate protects DNA and selenium is needed for thyroid function.

Research is starting to discover additional benefits of powdered vegetables. One study found that fruit and vegetable powders lowered systolic blood pressure by 12 mmHg and diastolic by 7 mmHg after 90 days. Another study found that taking a green powder for four weeks significantly reduced markers of oxidative stress, which could improve heart health.

Even with all this research, you still need to eat green vegetables. Green veggie complex can help increase the overall nutrient content of the diet, but it is not the same as eating fresh broccoli or kale. It is meant to be used in combination with a healthy diet for optimal results.
