CrossFit increases overall fitness, physique and general well-being. It's also a great way to get fit and add some variety to your workouts. Crossfit was originally used to train police and military forces but has become popular in the fitness world.
CrossFit is a strength and conditioning program that is designed to improve overall complete fitness and specific physical fitness. Since a wide range of exercises are used it helps ensure total fitness is achieved as well as balance in the body.
To do this, workouts are performed in the following areas:
When it comes to the benefits of CrossFit they are weight loss, improved heart health, improved joint mobility, improved overall health, training intensity and time efficiency.
Although most people start off doing steady state cardio exercises to lose weight, there has been research to show that high intensity training exercises can burn fat in a shorter time.
By following a CrossFit program you are able to make improvements in your body composition and this includes gaining muscle and losing weight (body fat) – according to a study in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning from 2013.
CrossFit exercises keep your heart rate elevated throughout the entire workout. This will increase your endurance especially since CrossFit workouts have been shown to elevate your heart rate to 90 per cent of your maximal heart rate. (According to a study from the American Council on Exercise).
Due to the functional movements and variety of exercises in CrossFit you will see improved joint mobility in your body. By learning the proper way to lift weights you will also lower the risk of injury in your everyday activities.
There are 10 major domains of fitness that CrossFit concentrates on and these include strength, stamina, flexibility, coordination, speed, power, balance, agility endurance and accuracy. By focusing on all of these different areas and the vast combinations of exercise movements, CrossFit will give a complete transformation to your overall health.
Since CrossFit workouts contain short intense workouts that are fast paced, they push your body close to its maximal effort. This has the obvious health benefits attached to it but it also allows you to develop the determination and motivation to complete challenging tasks.
As mentioned earlier, the intensity of a CrossFit workout means that a session could last from 15 to 20 minutes at near maximal effort. This means you will finish your workout faster while burning more calories than if you had done a standard workout in the same time.
If you’ve been bored with the same old workout routine then try the versatility of a CrossFit workout.
